Too Much Sauce!

In the fall of 2016, I partnered up with Madison Public Library, local youth and the University of Wisconsin – Madison Art Institute to create Too Much Sauce! The latest exhibition by The FauHaus Project. Every week our team of 10 high schoolers and 7 undergraduates came together to share a meal, trade stories and create.

The 14 week class was co-taught by myself and led by world-renowned artist, Faisal Abdu’Allah from London, Great Britain. We explored a wide range of art mediums, including screen printing shirts, collages, water color, digital art and large-scale painting. Students got the opportunity to visit several art galleries as well, after which we all voted to see where our opening reception would be. We held the reception at Commonwealth Gallery on December 8th, 2016. Over 100 people attended the event and all teen participants received plaques for completing the course.

Too Much Sauce, encompassing portraits of our participants, paintings and youth-designed neon installations, provides a creative step forward towards fixing the substantial racial and economic disparities of Madison.
